DIY Question: My older model Kenmore washer starts cycle normally andstops working right before it should drain and agitate. What could bethe problem and can I fix it myself?

Answer: It sounds like youhave a bad lid switch. A lid switch could cost between $15-30 dependingon your specific model and can be switched out fairly easily if you aremechanically inclined... Note "mechanically" inclined.

OnKenmores, Top Load washers, you would start by removing the two screwsin the console and some are under the front two trim pieces of theconsole, or one on each side in the back of the console. Lift consoleforward and flip over. The lid switch harness is generally in plainview which depending on your model the connection should be off rightcenter behind the lid. In newer models, the lid switch is in the backleft corner. The lid must be raised to remove the lid switch. Simplyremove and replace with new lid switch.

On an older model, afterlifting lid, two phillips head screws should be in the mid to back ofunit's top lip opening. For the older one you will need to remove theconnection wire to the lid switch and the two bronze clips found oneither side of the unit cabinet. Then you will need to pull forward onthe cabinet to get underneath to remove the 5/16th ground wire screwfound under top of the cabinet. Next, replace these items with the newlid switch.

**Always be sure your appliance is unplugged before beginning any and all work!

And as always........ fix it don't trash it!!!
