I have a 16 year old jennaire down draft gas range with a convection oven.  the temperature setting knob, for the oven,  is almost impossible to turn.  What are my possible problems.

Well, without seeing it first-hand I would say you need to replace the switch.  It sounds like it is 'froze up'.  The only problem with this is the JennAire replacement parts can be quite expensive.  If I were you I would get my model number and either call or give it to us here... we can look up the price of the part for you.  If you are far away and wouldn't need us to help you, you can go to Sears.com and look up the model number in their parts section.  You would need to get the price for the switch there.  There are breakdowns and diagrams on each model, so you could easily figure out the dial/switch you would need.
