There are two types of gas logs available, Vented and Vent Free. Vented Gas Logs burn with a yellowish flame that closely resembles the flame in a woodburning fireplace. You can choose a unit that burns propane or logs that burn natural gas. There are different configuration options for the vent that's required to remove the gases that the logs produce during burning. Vent-Free Gas Logs have a blue flame and are designed to provide nearly complete fuel combustion, resulting in less output of carbon monoxide and soot than vented logs. There are advantages and disadvantages to vent-free logs, and they are not allowed in some areas. Choosing between the two types of gas logs to use is very important and really depends on your home greatly and your personal needs. The residue created by the logs has to go somewhere and thus creates a big decision on your part. I can't tell you which is best for you but I can say that being knowledgeable about your purchase, your family's needs and the environment are a big part of this decision. Make sure to ask your salesperson numerous questions and get all the facts when making your decision! | |
